A-4 Scooter

Douglas A-4D Skyhawk, nicknamed the Scooter due to its diminutive size

The U.S. Navy took its first delivery of the A-4D in 1956, and it served with the Navy and the Marines for twenty years. The Brazilian and Argentine militaries still use it, and the Navy's Top Gun fighter school used it for years since its general performance simulated that of the Soviet MiG-21. A versatile and useful aircraft, indeed.

The Douglas Aircraft Company merged with McDonnell Aircraft in 1967 to form the McDonnell-Douglas Company. McDonnell-Douglas merged with Boeing in 1997, with the combined entity retaining the Boeing name and a company logo that resembled the old McDonnell-Douglas logo.
