Stay Cool
Alligator beside the bank of 40 Acre Lake in Brazos Bend State Park
Because of the ongoing heat wave and the lack of rain in 2022, much of the water in this lake has evaporated, so the water at this location is much shallower than normal. With less water in which to hide, the aquatic wildlife become much more visible. Ordinarily on a hot day like this one, the gator would stay deep under the water, invisible to humans and roving photographers. So, in that sense the drought is a boon to wildlife photography, but we need some rain.
