Near the End of an Era

Spiffy looking 1957 DeSoto Adventurer at the 2010 Keels & Wheels expo in Seabrook, Texas. The DeSoto was an automotive brand built by the Chrysler Corporation, in production from 1928 to 1961. This one shows the large tail fins that were all the rage in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Chrysler also built Dodge cars, which aimed largely at the same market segment as DeSoto, and finally decided it made no sense to have two brands that competed against each other. So, one had to go.
