Fifty-Fourth Massachusetts
This sculpture, by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, is at the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park in New Hampshire. It is a duplicate of one in Boston, Massachusetts, and commemorates Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Massachusetts infantry regiment, composed almost entirely of Black soldiers during the U.S. Civil War. In particular, this sculpture commemorates the regiment's attack on Fort Wagner, South Carolina, in 1863.
