Reaching for Heaven

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, in the tiny community of Dubina, TX, is one of the famous painted churches in the area around Schulenburg, TX.

The area around Dubina was settled in the late 19th century by Czech-speaking immigrants who wanted a church reminiscent of the ones they left behind in Europe. The interior has posts made of wood but are painted to look like the rocks used in their European churches. They had to do that because rocks are scarce in this area, so they couldn't use them for building.

The church interior, photos of which I have posted in my Painted Churches album, is very beautiful.
