Joshua Trees and Snow Caps
The Joshua Tree is the signature plant of the Mojave Desert, of which Death Valley is a part. This is near the western edge of Death Valley National Park. The snowcapped mountain on the horizon is in the eastern Sierra Nevada. The Sierras are the highest mountain range in the continental United States, reaching a maximum elevation of about 14500 feet (the exact value depends on which reference you consult...), or 4420 m. Alaska has higher peaks but is not contiguous to the rest of the U.S.
