Russian Dolls

Every year Moody Gardens in Galveston has an event called Ice Land. Its original inspiration was the ice carving contests in Harbin, China, where master ice carvers would create fantastical, whimsical, and often huge, ice sculptures. National Geographic featured their work more than once. Moody Gardens brings a crew of carvers to Galveston to create a themed exhibit of colorful sculptures.

To keep the ice from melting, they build an insulated tent that they keep at a fairly constant 9 degrees F (-15 degrees C). They loan heavy parkas to their visitors because most residents of Southeast Texas do not keep such apparel around. To this old man, it still feels pretty cold.

I don't know what they do for Christmas in Russia, but some Russian nesting dolls seem apropos.
