Undaunted

One could make a good argument that the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber broke the back of the Japanese navy during World War II. During the Battle of Midway, a group of SBDs caught the Japanese changing the armament of their planes on their carrier decks and proceeded to sink four carriers in total. The munitions on the carrier decks added to the explosives dropped by the SBDs, so the carriers really didn't have a chance. The fortunes of war. This is one of the 2 or 3 airworthy SBDs in the world.
