LSFM SBD

The Douglas SBD (Scout Bomber, Douglas) was one of the most significant airplanes of World War II, as it accounted for the sinking of all the Japanese aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway. By any accounting, Midway was the turning point of the Pacific war. The SBD was already obsolete at the time, but by a stroke of good luck, the American bombers caught the Japanese changing the armament on their planes while on the flight deck, making them unable to take off and fight back. Sometimes history turns on things like that. This is at the Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Field, Houston, TX.
