The Jesuits founded this mission in 1692, but King Carlos III of Spain banished the Jesuits from Spain's North American colonies in 1767, whereupon the mission passed to the custody of the Franciscans. This building was constructed between 1783 and 1797, making it the oldest surviving Spanish structure in Arizona.
