Choir Member's View at Sts. C&M Church

One of the famous painted churches near Schulenburg, This is the interior of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in the small community of Dubina, which was settled in the 19th century by Czech-speaking immigrants. This is a view of the painted ceiling and the sanctuary from the choir loft at the rear of the church.

The support columns holding up the arched ceiling look like they are carved from rock, but they're actually wood painted to look like rock. The settlers wanted a church that looked like the ones they left behind in Europe, but they didn't have the necessary building materials. So, they made do with what was locally available.
