Upstream in Santa Elena Canyon
Santa Elena Canyon is one of three major canyons along the Rio Grande River in Big Bend National Park. It is the westernmost canyon and has perpendicular walls on either side that range up to 1500 feet (450 m) above the river. There are places in the canyon where rocks have fallen from the walls, causing a partial blockage of the river.
