The Big SCT Desert Snake (1999)

Snaking around the big S-curves between Wirrappa and Pimba, are freshly-painted CLP14-CLP13-CLP11 in ASR's corporate colours with a 60 vehicle, 1.5km long SCT freight 3MP9 from Melbourne to Perth via Adelaide. The train is continuing its journey west west after the official ASR photoshoot at Yorkey’s Crossing on Wednesday January 6 1999. That big band of cloud caused considerable worry and some grief getting good shots of the locos on the train.

Motive Power Issue No. 140 March/April 2022 features Part 1 of the SCT Logistics story with 21 historic photos of the early trains.
