Eights Rowing Teams Regatta...Welland ON. 26/09/09

something new for our family.... an exciting and interesting day yesterday, on the old Welland Canal ( the new one is used for shipping..)

Our grandchildren, Leah and Lucas attending two weeks of rowing instruction this summer, for the first time...along with about a hundred other youngsters.... were invited to have a month's free activities with the Don Rowing Club of Mississauga...and both participated in an international regatta ( New York state, and SW Ontario teams..).

When we arrived, the day was bright blue and sunny...changing as the day went on.

Lots for the photographer... first....socks on one of the women's teams.... catching my eye..

Then the sight of the teams doing the lifting of the sculls ....all together now !!!

The rowers must all learn to do the setting up and dismantling of the boats before and after....

The boats row a total of about 8 kilometers, going to the starting point and returning....our children enjoyed this very much....both are already busy with running, swimming, bicycling ...in triathlons for their age groups. Rowing seems to be something that will help them in these sports as well...decisions have not yet been made concerning continuing with the rowing...we'll see !

Another pleasure of the weekend was Tory...the miniature schnauzer the family is baby-sitting for two weeks...what a nice dog !!!! ( Only barks...loudly....when someone new enters the house...) ( does not beg for people food ) ( there may be a problem giving the dog back to its rightful owners... !)
