Battery Fiemel at Termunten the Netherlands

Fiemel is a hamlet in the Dutch municipality of Delfzijl. It lies east of Termunten, directly on the Dollard on the south side of the Punt van Reide.

During the Second World War, the German occupiers built a number of bunkers at Fiemel. These were part of the Atlantic Wall and also served as a defense for the city of Emden, which lies opposite Fiemel on the Eems estuary. During the liberation of this part of the province of Groningen heavy resistance was offered from those bunkers. The neighboring Nieuwolda was badly damaged. A number of the bunkers have been preserved.

At the hamlet there is a pumping station of the same name. There is also a visitor center for Het Groninger Landschap. This nature organization manages both the nearby Breebaartpolder and the Punt van Reide.
