Feathered Cloud and Sun Pillar
On a trip to the South Styrian Wine Region we were rewarded with this mesmerizing sunset scene on the grounds of the "Weinrefugium Brolli", near the village of Eckberg. Captured about 15 minutes after sunset, this image showcases a rare sun pillar—a vertical shaft of light created by ice crystals reflecting the already-set sun. The sun itself is not visible, only its stunning reflection in the high-altitude ice particles. Above the horizon, a striking feathered cloud is dramatically illuminated by the sun’s lingering light, adding texture and depth to the sky.
