Glaumbaer - turf houses and church

The farm Glaumbaer near the Skagafjörður in Iceland is now a museum village. Turf houses offered superior insulation compared to buildings solely made of wood or stone. Snorri Þorfinnsson and his parents lived here in the 11th century. Snorri is probably the first European to be born in America long before Columbus. He also built the first church at Glaumbær and became important for the Christianisation of Iceland.
