Nature's Marsh Sculptures
I found this strange scene in the southeastern US,
Rising water levels (in usually stagnant water) lifted floating algae mats above the reeds. When the water eventually receded, it left the mats draped over the plants and the weight of the wet mats bent their stems this way and that, creating these strange structures.
Occasionally, while trying to photograph them, the clouds would part, and the sunlight would fleetingly shine through the algae "fabrics", turning their drab green-brown tones into glowing yellowish greens. The long waits in quite painful positions turned out to have been worth it.
