On Assignment: Navy Board Inlet, Nunavut

On a video assignment with the BBC for the series, Nature's Great Events. (Not sure what the North American title is.) This program was dubbed "The Great Melt." Our job was to get video of narwhal and shoot point-of-views of whales swimming in leads (huge cracks in the ice). We spent 6 weeks in the field for this segment. An amazing trip with a superb crew of 3 plus a couple experienced Inuit guides. This was day one of diving and we set up to test gear and check conditions. I have had the great good fortune to work with BBC on a number of occasions, including Blue Planet and Planet Earth, some of the best video production work I have ever been involved with. We had limited success on this shoot with poor weather and ice conditions. However, I did manage to shoot most of the video for the "making of" segment that accompanies the DVD and European version of the program. (This image was chosen for publicity on the NGE series.)
