Violet Green Swallow
When I opened this photo up on my computer I was so shocked to see the colors on this Swallow.
I've had a pair nesting up in the eve of my roof on the east side of my house and have been trying to get a picture of at least one of the parents.
This is the adult male and he has taken to perching sometimes for somewhat long periods of time on the pole that my hummingbird feeders hang from.
So yesterday I managed to get some shots of him and this is what I was hoping to get, one of him taking flight.
I had not noticed before all the different and beautiful colors on him until I could see the stopped action on my computer. The purple on his rump and the gorgeous greenish/bluish feathers on his back, along with a couple other subtle colors, like light blue and yellow.
I had thought the nesting pair was just a barn swallow or tree swallow but when I saw the colors, I had to google him and that's how I learned he's called a Violet Green Swallow. They nest and breed here but fly south to Mexico for winter.
So I was pretty excited about getting this shot because it's a bird I didn't realize I had here, in fact did not even know existed so this is a first.
Oh, and this was actually taken through my kitchen window. Luckily I had just cleaned the windows a couple days earlier, LOL.
