Singletrack
The Caledonian Railway's Symington to Broughton line was built in 1860, and by 1864 it had been extended east to Peebles. It carried passengers and freight, including livestock, and was mainly a connection between Peebles and what was then the Caledonian Railway's main line to Glasgow – now the West Coast Main Line. The section between Broughton and Peebles was single track and apparently without passing loops other than station sidings.
Neidpath Viaduct is 440 feet long, 32 feet high, and crosses the River Tweed on the skew. Neidpath Castle is only a few hundred metres downstream, and the viaduct sports various castellated features.
