Thought for the day...
Well, it looks like Hurricane Ike is insistent upon playing out the worst possible scenario for the city of Houston!
Making landfall in Brazoria County (just down the coast) will have the absolute worst part of the storm passing right over the majority of heavily populated parts of the Houston metro area.
Current predictions (9:00 AM Thursday) indicate that rain (and thus, flooding) will not be the biggest threat to central Houston but we will have to deal with tropical storm force winds for 24 hours or more and sustained hurricane force winds for possibly 12 hours or more. Considering the quality of construction in most Houston housing, a lot of us may gain unwanted skylights over the weekend...
Knowing that evacuation is not an option based on our Rita experience and having a firm belief that this will be an even bigger mess, we are making preparations to hunker down and ride it out again.
We expect to lose power tomorrow night or early Saturday but will attempt to keep friends and family updated on our status as long as we have cell phone signals -- I will post updates here from my BlackBerry, as it will get a data signal sometimes when we can't get a consistent enough signal for voice.
Meanwhile, everybody hope for Ike to speed up and not gain strength!
