Lost and lonely

In 25+ years we have not heard of another sighting on the island of an Atlantic spadefish. They are from the northern Caribbean and they like to school. So this one is a bit lost.

This fish has been seen at the same location for several months. It is ignored by many divers because it isn't colorful. And it has the shape of the common French angelfish (which is much prettier). But if we were to find a flamingo in Philadelphia, we would get excited. Same for a spadefish in Bonaire.

I did several dives with this fish and so I have a large collection of images. The fish was really curious and would swim right at me and up to my mask, making for a fun experience. I think it was lonely. But, ironically, this made it a bit harder to photograph. I decided to go with this image because the setting conveys that this fish is on its own.
