Dance fly (Empis tessellata)
So called because it does an airborne dance replete with an offering of food - usually another fly species- for the female in a pre-mating ritual.
It preys on other flies but also takes nectar. It's long, slender proboscis is used to spear its prey which it catches in mid-air.
Here, it is on Ornamental Redcurrant flowers.
