Driftwood

I’m finally starting to come back down to earth now after the highs of the International Photography Awards results last week. Having had a few days now to reflect, I’ve come to realize a few things about photography:

1. Stick to your creative guns. Following your own intuition and exploring your own creativity, rather than emulating other styles blindly, will result in a body of work that’s unique to your personality. When your work starts to exhibit personality, it starts to speak to the right audience and that’s when you really take off.

2. Persistence pays off! It’s true in every line of work. Keep forging ahead, even when you feel you’re producing absolutely horrible work. The drive to continually improve is what separates the bad from the good, and the good from the best. Keep on keeping on and you will get better!

3. Competitions are cool but they’re not everything. Yea it’s nice to be recognized, but in the end, art is subjective. There’s no two ways about it. I’ve seen plenty of amazing photographers who haven’t won a thing. They’re still amazing photographers! Shoot for yourself, screw the world ;)

Here’s to a great week ahead all!
