Lightweight Column-A

A light-weight, transparent, load-bearing column design created from four module types with slightly varying shapes. Circular tension cables on layers create a self supporting system capable of carrying much more than it’s own weight.

 

Columns can be altered in height, color, width, and replace thick, heavy columns with lightweight, transparent columns that have a potential for lighting and occupancy. The lightweight, polycarbonate material is milled and scored to allow folding. Units are connected circularly and layered. Emerging column styles can be modular and capable of user interaction and inform design in unthinkable ways.
