Preparatory sketch for my portrait of Andy Warhol, the famous American Pop artist. Final painting coming soon... The hole in his torso symbolizes the way he survived from an attempted assassination in 1968. Warhol was seriously wounded by the attack and barely survived. He suffered physical effects for the rest of his life. The shooting had a profound effect on Warhol's life and art.
