365-6-174 The helicoper that buzzed us at the Moose Mountain Fire Lookout
A 2007 Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express C/N 9253
The hike to Moose Mountain, with its major fire lookout station, is very popular, and is a relatively easy route. It wasn't our aim to take that regular route, and we noticed on the drive to our intended route a sign saying that that popular trail had been closed. We did make it to the top of Moose Mountain via a seldom-used route, and were quite surprised to find that the Fire Lookout had been closed and was under renovation. On our long and tenuous route we had been wondering if the person who was staffing the lookout had been monitoring us. Shortly after we arrived we heard a helicopter in the skies, and sure enough it was approaching. We thought they might be trying to land, and so got as far away from the landing pad as possible. It didn't land and just circled us a few times, so we got the message that perhaps we shouldn't be hanging around the vacant lookout and started our 13 km walk back to the trailhead on Canyon Creek.
