King of the gumdrops
That's no gumdrop, silly! That's Devil's Tower in between summer storms, during a visit I had there this past summer. For an hour prior to this, I had scrambled around trying to find a decent composition so that I could capture some lightning behind the big ol' gumdrop, but that never panned out. The storm kind of fizzled out, and I was headed back to the campground (we stayed at a KOA right outside the gates that played "Close Encounters" outdoors in the evenings), when a pretty nice light show erupted from behind Devil's Tower. If I were prone to hyperbole, I would call the light "wild" or "epic," but I think I'll stick with "pretty nice."
Odds and ends: You'll notice some longhorn cattle in the midground, but there were actually a couple of buffalo wandering around and I really, desperately wanted to get one of those things in the frame during this series of shots, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. So I settled for longhorns. I might take them out later, though
Thanks for checking out the photo!
