Postcards from Belgium... 'Brugge'

Sin duda una de las ciudades “imperdibles” de Europa, una ciudad de “cuento de hadas”. Una ciudad inolvidable.
Esta última debe de haber sido la cuarta vez que la visito, y siempre me parece la primera porque la capacidad de sorpresa de esta ciudad es absoluta. También es cierto que ha sido la visita más completa.
Al igual que en Sevilla, fue un día largo, desde primera hora de la mañana hasta bien entrada la tarde todo nuevo lugar era un descubrimiento.
Esta es la típica foto, pero no pude evitar hacerla.
Brujas (Brugge en neerlandés, Bruges en francés) proviene del noruego antiguo "Bryggia" (puentes, muelles, atracaderos). Es la capital de la región belga de Flandes Occidental. Situada en el extremo noroeste de Bélgica a 90 kilómetros de la capital Bruselas, cuenta en su núcleo urbano con una población de 117.000 habitantes.
El mayor atractivo de Brujas es su centro histórico, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en el año 2000. Aunque en gran parte reconstruido, dicho centro urbano es uno de los más grandes atractivos turísticos centroeuropeos, ya que mantiene intactas las estructuras arquitectónicas medievales. Al igual que Amsterdam y Estocolmo, entre otras, Brujas es conocida como la Venecia del norte debido a la gran cantidad de canales que atraviesan la ciudad, y a la belleza de los mismos.

Without any kind of doubt, one of the “must see” cities in Europe, a fairy tale city. An unforgettable one.
This must be the fourth time I visit it, and always it seems the first one because surprising capacity of this city is amazing. To be honest, it has been the most complete one.
Same as in Seville, it was a long day, from first time in the morning till sunset, but it worth it. Every new place was a discovering.
This is a cliché picture but I couldn’t help to take it.
Bruges (Dutch: Brugge) is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country.
The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It is egg-shaped and about 430 hectares in size. The area of the whole city amounts to more than 13,840 hectares, including 193.7 hectares off the coast, at Zeebrugge ("Seabruges" in literal translation). The city's total population is more than 117,000, of which around 20,000 live in the historic centre.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, it is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North".
Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port, and is also home to the College of Europe.
