L’HOMME Nov 2022 – House of Stark

Believe it or not, I struggle with every issue for an overriding theme that dictates my decor editorial for L'Homme. But I knew for months — after watching an episode of Vogue’s Objects of Affection, which featured fashion designer Rick Owens’ home —that I wanted to re-create my own SL rendition of the American designer’s stylish abode in Corcordia, Italy.
The main attraction of Owens’ home is its brutalist style — an architectural/style genre, which I personally find intriguing but sadly, not very popular in Second Life. Blame it on the stark minimalism that robs the tactile excitement we always covet within the game — perhaps?
But it’s precisely the lack of bells and whistles that draws me to the austerity of brutalism. Citing his European home as a place for creating new collections, Owens also referred to the time he spends in this work space as: “This is a period of rigor and a period of training.”
In my opinion, that’s producing design, as well as a sense of visionary discipline in a very, very awe inspiring way.
