The Yorkshire Dales near Garsdale Head
Garsdale starts near Sedbergh and then runs to the east until it joins Upper Wensleydale at Garsdale Head. This shot was taken from Coal Road, which was originally an ancient track that goes up over the top of the fells and links Dentdale with Garsdale. The Carlisle to Settle railway line has two stations on this road. Dent, which is the highest operational station in the country, and Garsdale, which is just below us. In the distance, just right of centre, can be seen Wild Boar Fell. This is 2,323 feet above sea level, making it the fourth highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Garsdale historically was in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
