The Lancaster Canal near Borwick, Lancashire

The canal ends a couple of miles from here at Tewitfield in the far north of Lancashire. Travelling south, it goes via Lancaster to Preston. The canal dates from the mid-1790s and was originally intended to improve the supply of coal to Lancaster. These days it is used purely for leisure purposes.
