The beach at Lyme Regis, Dorset

Lyme Regis in Dorset has a pebble beach, though nearer the Cobb End hundreds of tons of sand have been brought in to provide a more family-friendly beach. I think Lyme Regis is one of the prettiest English coastal towns, and we first came here around 30 years ago. We've been coming back ever since, and Judy and I recently spent a week here to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The tower at the end of the beach is part of an underground sewage treatment works that has been very cleverly constructed to add to the sea defences and also provide seating areas. Most visitors probably don't even realise what is beneath their feet.
