Lyme Regis, Dorset
Lyme Regis in West Dorset is one of my favourite seaside towns. It once had one of the most important harbours in England, but this proved to be too small for larger ships, and it gradually silted up. It is now home to a number of yachts and pleasure craft as well as fishing boats.
Because the land surrounding Lyme Regis is so unstable there has been little scope for development, and the town has retained its charm and remained largely unchanged for many years. Some of the houses on the seafront date back to the late 18th or early 19th centuries.
