The Plague Doctor

Or Doktor Schnabel von Rom ("Doctor Beak of Rome"), engraving by Paul Fürst, 1656.

Check out my many galleries of other folks on Flickr who have images inspired by this - start with Gallery One. Because there were far more images on Flickr than I'd assumed I ended up with 9 Galleries - so just check out my Gallery Page to see them all. Frankly I enjoyed looking at all the photos, regardless of quality, just because of the many variations on this one image.

Meanwhile if anyone has any information about the engraver Paul Fürst - please let me know! I'm still trying to research him to find out more.

Meanwhile I first saw this image here (and wikipedia):

With many thanks to Kintzertorium who posted it! I'm only posting it on my Flickr because after making so many galleries I now I have to blog about this research...

Read my blog post about this here.

And if you have any plague doctor photos to share - add them to this Flickr Group: The Plague Doctor

Check out the discussion on that group's forum - I've put more links there.
