Floyd A Brendle, Hollywood Cemetery, Elkin NC
This is the grave stone for Floyd A Brendle who began a grocery business in downtown Elkin and it later grew into a wholesale grocery distributor. Later in years the sons and grandsons turned it into a multichain Catalog Showroom called Brendle's Inc. They sold jewelry, housewares, giftware, electronics, cameras, and toy. Brendle's finally went out of business in1996. This business began in 1918 as a grocery store and wholesale grocery business. Floyd A Brendle was the owner. I can remember when it was a grocery store on Main Street in downtown Elkin NC in the late 1950's. It later opened on Standard Street and became a Catalog Showroom selling jewelry and other merchandise. Floyd A took the money from his wife's cookie jar where they had sold eggs and milk and bought this country store and began a grocery business in downtown Elkin.
