BASF - We create chemistry
Bacteria to fight tooth decay
Painful cavities and the dentist’s drill – almost all of us have had caries at some time or other. But not everyone knows that caries is caused by bacteria. The bacterium Streptococcus mutans inhabits the surface of the teeth, where it converts sugar into acids that attack and break down tooth enamel. BASF, in collaboration with Berlin-based OrganoBalance GmbH, has developed a suitable antagonist.
