Hoeksche Waard - Mariapolder - Zuidfront Vesting Holland - luchtwachttoren (35)

Dutch polder -

The casemate beneath the tower was built in 1937. It is also called a VIS (Prescription Arrangement) Casemate. From the casemate, the river crossing and the Moerdijk bridges were monitored with a machine gun. There are still many original traces to be seen, such as the steel doors, a nearby defense and a shooting hole for the machine gun. Outside there are even traces of impact.

You can climb the air watch tower during Bunkerday. From the lookout there is a magnificent view of the Hollandsch Diep and Dordtsche Kil river crossings and the Moerdijk bridges. On the other hand, a large part of the Hoeksche Waard National Landscape can be seen.
