In the distance a group of seals on a sandbank, perhaps saying goodbye to their deceased friend which washed up on the shore on this first day of Spring [or maybe the day before].

Around 1900 thousands of seals lived in this area, but as a result of the construction of the Delta Works and pollution of the sea, their numbers decreased immensely. With the coming of Maasvlakte 1 & 2 many nature compensation initiatives started, resulting in large numbers of seals inhabiting the Maasvlakte and Voordelta coastal area again.
