St George's, South Acre, Norfolk
St. George's at South Acre, Norfolk, is a lovely little church with an unexpected and macabre line in church memorials. Hidden in one corner is the tomb of SIr Edward Barkham (died 1621) a former Lord Mayor of London. After the style of the time his tomb is decorated with skulls and a full length skeleton plus winged hour-glasses of the 'tempus fugit' variety to remind the viewer that time is passing quickly.

Most striking is the scene at the front of the tomb where disarticulated bones seem to pile up against a window (above).
Elsewhere the church has a Norman font and a 13th century Templar tombstone. This last is very difficult to photograph due to the proximity of a wall. I know, I tried! The remains of the former Rood screen (14th century) is now in the tower. The tower is 15th century.
