Life Lovers (best on black or large)
The Volvo 70 yacht Camper comes into Galway Harbour at the end of a day of inshore racing in the Volvo series. The skipper Chris Nicholson is standing in the pulpit whilst helmsman Robert Salthouse carefully steers the multi million pound vessel onto its berth.
Camper came second overall in the round the world event (the volvo is the modern version of the old Whitbread round the world race) behind Groupama but took the record for the largest distance covered in 24 hours with an incredible 566 nautical miles covered running before a force 8 storm from Lisbon to Lorient.
These boats represent the pinnacle of performance in offshore racing but will be redundant by the next Volvo race as technology moves forward continually.
