Hi-Res ER1436A

This is the Erzbergbahn in Styria, Austria.

The maximum load for two Class 97 locos from the loading bunkers at Erzberg to the summit at Präbichl is only ten loaded iron ore hoppers. At Präbichl the loaded hoppers are marshalled into trains of twenty wagons for the descent to Vordernberg. Electric locos then work the trains forward to the blast furnaces at Donawitz.

Here a train of ten loaded iron ore hoppers is pounding along the 1 in 14 gradient rack section from Feistawiese towards Präbichl with stovepipe Class 97 C1'zzt (0-6-2T) 97.207 leading and Giesl ejector fitted 97.208 providing rear end assistance (both built by kkStb Floridsdorf in 1892).

97.208 has been preserved as an active museum loco at Strasshof.
