Clive, despite this serious-looking shot, is a bit of a joker as it turned out - see the shot in the comments (adding it shortly)! He is the director of the National Print Gallery in London, so he has seen quite a lot of good and bad art... let's hope he won't find this portrait too bad even with his refined tastes ( I was very nervous after I found out what he did, no pressure!).
I spotted Clive next to a postbox just as fellow photographer Ant and I were heading back to work after a nice lunch break in the sun. I almost didn't approach him, but then I thought what the hell! Clive very kindly agreed to a portrait after I explained what the project was about.
His friend, Robert, turned up while I was talking about the project, and suggested I photograph both of them. He was also a remarkable character, so I didn't mind at all! They joked around the whole time, so even though I was nervous about taking nice pictures, I was giggling a lot too, as their sense of humour was right up my street.
I chose a vintage look complementing Clive's outfit's colours - the light in this side street was all right from this angle, although any other angle wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but as there were no other reasonably clean background options this had to do!
