-------------------------------

I asked Glen for his picture near this dark purple wall in Shoreditch, as the third in a mini-series of portraits using simple coloured backgrounds; he seemed like an interesting character as he walked past with his sister, and of course his shirt worked well with the wall I'd chosen! Glen seemed quite surprised that I was asking for a photo, but was up for it and seemed to relax a bit more after I explained what the project was. I took some smiling pictures of him but thought that this more serious, slightly aloof look was more interesting.

I asked him what the craziest thing he'd ever done was, and he laughed that his sister's there so he's not sure what he can say - so I let him off the hook and asked about music he's into these days :) He said he prefers older music, like 70s rock, particularly Pink Floyd; his favourite song is probably Time.

Thank you, Glen, for being a part of the project :)

Technical details: this is actually a composite made up of a photo of Glen, plus a separate photo of the background only. The strip of purple wasn't wide enough to extend to the edges of the frame in the composition I chose for the portrait, so after Glen and his sister left I took a manually focused, out of focus photo of the background alone from closer up; I then placed Glen's photo on top of this and masked out the non-purple edges of the portrait. This was one of those times when it's simply not possible to get it 'right' in camera so a bit of editing is needed afterwards to achieve your idea!
