30 Lion capital, from Ashoka pillar.photo source Prof. Frederick Asher, U Minn.1999
This is not my photo; I found it on the internet. We saw this sculpture in the Museum (no photos). It had fallen from the to of the Ashoka pillar as it was being excavated. The four lions represent Buddha roaring in four directions. This four-lion capital became the symbol of all India, and the circle beneath the lion is India's national flag emblem.
