05-17-23 Eyes of the Future

Composite artwork created 05-17-23, utilizing 21 layers in Photoshop 2023.

When I began creating composites to use on my blog from 2004 to 2013, most were cobbled together using "found" images from the internet. In 2015, after I bought my first DSLR, I vowed never to create any composite artwork that didn't use my own photography.

Over 200 of these images are featured here on Flickr in my Composite Artwork folder.

As I see more and more digital artists using AI programs such as DALL-E, Wombo Dream and Bing Image Generator, I am conflicted about whether to even call this original art since a lot of the images seem to be completely created in those programs.

I decided to give some of these programs a whirl, and settled on Bing Image Creator to create two of the elements in this image which I have never photographed.

The architecture is from a photo I recently took at The Huntington's Chinese Garden. The mountain is created from a photo I took at Arches National Park. The eyes and the castle were "created" by typing instructions into the Bing

Image Generator. I wanted "eyes with teeth" to be suspended from the portals, and I wanted a castle on a rocky mountain. The generator gives multiple choices. And I refined the instructions till I got what I was envisioning in my head.

I used the AI images just as I do with my own photos, subjecting them to various filters and making adjustments in Aurora HDR and Camera RAW.

I've adapted my "signature" which will always have "art photography" when compositing is utilized, to read "art/AI"

It took quite a few hours to make this little gem I call "Eyes of the Future".
