Oswald's Gas Station

Buena Vista Street

Disney California Adventure, Disney Resort

Anaheim, CA

05-01-23

When DCA opened in 2001 the entrance was completely different than what it is now, a celebration of how Los Angeles looked in the 20s and 30s when Disney began making cartoons. This souvenir stand, made to look like a gas station (complete with antique pumps) is called Oswald's after the Disney character he animated for Universal, called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

I'm always impressed with how the Disney Imagineers and architects are able to create new "places" and buildings which are always true to Walt Disney's original vision. (This vision was somewhat blinded by the entrance to DCA when it opened.)

Another Souvenir stand built like a vintage service station and called Oswald's, but with a completely different look is in Florida's Hollywood Studios Park at Walt Disney World. The car is a 1937 Packard One Twenty Coupe, by the way.
