avebury sunrise

Avebury in Wiltshire is the lesser known but equally spectacular stone circle that surrounds the village not far from Stonehenge. the huge sarsen stones are buried quite far into the ground to create the stability to keep them upright and range in various sizes each being a considerable size. The one in the foreground being 8-10ft high perhaps helps to add to the sense of wonder when looking at them. It has always been a favourite place to visit for me and I was very fortunate to get there this morning to find the first dusting of snow this winter on the ground as the sun climbed into the sky.
