Sally Bolton, East Timor

The idea of a staff retreat usually fills me with horror. Largely because my previous staff retreats were held in the depths of winter in Washington DC, and involved ‘fun’ activities like dinner cruises on the Potomac in sub-zero temperatures. When I was told that Seeds of Life was planning a staff retreat in the remote enclave of Oecussi I was a little apprehensive. It turned out to be one of my favourite weeks in East Timor.

Fifty colleagues, six days, five guitars, two overnight ferries, and a program that involved volleyball, football, snorkelling, dancing, endless singing, and yes, some work as well. In this photo I’m leading a photography workshop with my colleagues Luis, Rojinho, Armindo and Vicente.
